Determination Of Dissolved Oxygen of water using Dissolved Oxygen (D.O.) Meter

Determination Of Dissolved Oxygen of water using Dissolved Oxygen (D.O.) Meter

Apparatus Used: DO Meter with electrodes (DO Probe)

Procedure:

  1. Switch on the DO Meter.
  2. Open the electrode cap & pour 7.5% KCL solution in it to electrode as electrolyte.
  3. Close the cap & check that there is not any bubble in it.
  4. If membrane is turned out then use new membrane.
  5. To activate new membrane keep it in hot water for 2 hrs then in cold water for an hr or alternatively.
  6. Add this membrane & start the experiment.
  7. Now connect the electrodes to it.
  8. Check the value of cell constant.
  9. Calibrate the electrodes with standard solution.
  10. Such as the amount of D.O. at 23 degree celcius of deionized water is 8.38.
  11. Calibrate instument using deionized water.
  12. Now take sample of water & dip the DO probe in it.
  13. Keep stirring.
  14. Note the reading when it is nearly stable.
Result:

The stable value recoded is the desired DO value of the water sample.
