Sedimentation With Coagulation



Definition: The process of adding certain chemicals to water in order to form floc of insoluble gelatinous substance for quick sedimentation & rapid removal of fine particles is called Sedimentation With Coagulation.
The insoluble gelatinous obtained by adding chemicals to water is called floc & the process is called flocculation.
The chemical compounds are called coagulants & their process or reaction is termed as coagulation.

Common Coagulants:
The common chemicals used for coagulation is as follows:

  1. Aluminium Sulphate (Alum)
  2. Iron Salts
  3. Chlorinated Copperas
  4. Sodium Aluminate
