Disadvantages Of Concrete
Concrete has following disadvantages :
It has low tensile strength and hence cracks easily.
It expands and contracts with change in temperature. Thus, expansion and construction joints are provided in construction of large concrete structures.
Concrete prepared by using ordinary Portland cement disintegrates by the action of alkalis, sulfates, etc.
It develops creep under sustained load.
Strict supervision at every stage is required.
It is heavy in weight and thus requires large amount of steel for its self weight.
